Reminder of public meetings about local neighbourhood plan for Gordon’s Bay Development Area The Gordon's Bay Development Area (GBDA) includes vacant and underdeveloped land located to the north of the coastal town, between the existing N2 highway and just east of Sir Lowry's Pass Road.<span><p>The Gordon's Bay Development Area (GBDA) includes vacant and underdeveloped land located to the north of the coastal town, between the existing N2 highway and just east of Sir Lowry's Pass Road. </p><p>The draft local spatial development framework (LSDF) for this area was made public on 24 January 2024 to allow residents and interested and affected parties the opportunity to collaborate with the City in finalising the LSDF. </p><p><strong>Details of the open house meetings:</strong></p><ul><li>Saturday, 24 February 2024, from 10:00 to 14:00 at the Charles Morkel Community Hall, Strand</li><li>Friday, 8 March 2024, from 13:00 to 19:00 at the Charles Morkel Community Hall, Strand<br></li></ul> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/GBDA%20Study%20Area2102.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:1008px;" /> </figure>​​</span><p>'I encourage residents to attend one, if not both, of these meetings. The City uses the LSDF for guidance when making decisions about development applications and land uses.</p><p>'The Gordon's By Development Area has immense development potential. However, as much as we need development to keep up with population growth demands, this must be managed in a sustainable manner that promotes and protects the unique characteristics of the area. Cape Town's economic growth mission to Türkiye helps strengthen global tiesTürkiye and South Africa have a strong tourism partnership. <span><p>Türkiye and South Africa have a strong tourism partnership. This is underscored by the seven direct flights per week between Istanbul and Cape Town. The direct flights connect tourists and business travellers alike, and represent growing interest and investment in tourism and trade opportunities.  </p><p>Türkiye is also a strategic trade partner to South Africa, for example: </p><ul><li>In 2021 Türkiye exported $902 million in goods to South Africa. </li><li>In the same year, South Africa exported $935m to Türkiye with the top product being iron ore, followed by gold and centrifuges. </li><li>Between 1995 and 2021 the exports of Türkiye to South Africa have increased at an annualised rate of 10,2%; and exports from South Africa to Türkiye increased at an annualised rate of 7,4%.<br></li></ul> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/Pic%201.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:1044px;" /> </figure></span><span><p>Working persistently to implement the Sister City agreement signed between Cape Town and İzmir, Alderman Vos and Duminy held high-level discussions with key İzmir authorities during this recent visit. Resurfacing roadworks in Mitchells PlainThe City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises residents, road users, businesses and the broader public of roadworks along Lantana Street, Juno Road and Silversands Avenue in the Mitchells Plain area.<p>The roadworks include the following:</p><ul><li>Milling and removal of existing road surface</li><li>Relaying the area with new thick asphalt wearing course over the full width of the road </li><li>The removal of damaged kerbs and installation of new kerbs</li><li>Removing the speed hump and constructing a new speed hump</li><li>The reinstatement of all road markings removed during the process</li></ul><p>'Residents in this vicinity of Mitchells Plain will soon be able to benefit from these works. These resurfaced roads will improve road safety conditions and commuter quality. City condemns attack at construction site, offers reward for information ​The City of Cape Town condemns the attack on a security guard and a K9 patrol dog at the construction site on the intersection of Duinefontein Road and Govan Mbeki Road in Philippi yesterday morning, 20 February 2024.<p>'These attacks are unacceptable and undermine the City's efforts to deliver much-needed services to communities. The attack happened where our Urban Mobility Directorate is busy with construction work related to the roll-out of the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service in the metro south -east.
