Resolution detail

Mr Talcott Persent (TDA) was present for the Maintenance of Silvermine Canal Project. He explained that the project was delayed due to the leopard toad season and the maintenance plant (submitted last year) was received late in January. Alderman Purchase asked for an update on the Glencairn vlei, to which Mr Persent responded that after discussion with Mr Chris Bonthuys (Parks & Recreation), it was agreed that it would be a futile exercise to cut the reeds. A bulldozer would have to be used to remove the silt and the reeds; an island would be formed in the wetland or moved to the side. He added that this was not in line with the maintenance management plan (MMP), but he would liaise with Ms Candice Haskins (ERM) to possibly change that. Mr Persent stated that a more sustainable solution would be to remove some of the reeds and deepen the wetlands, as the typha would stop growing when the water is deeper than 800mil. Cllr Aimee Kuhl enquired about the challenges with vagrants staying under the bridge. Mr Persent responded that with the help of Law Enforcement they were able to remove the sand to dig under the railway land for water to flow through. The sand removed from this site would be used to fill the retention pond at Mountain View, Ocean View. Cllr Simon Liell-Cock asked if site visit of the Oatlands Resort could be arranged with Mr David Curran (Recreation and Parks) RESOLVED that, 1.The contents of the Progressive Capital Expenditure Report (PCER) for February 2018 be NOTED. 2.A site visit to Oatlands Resort be arranged with Mr David Curran (Recreation and Parks).
