Hi Nobe,
Attach please find the traffic calming investigation along Irene Avenue as requested.
As mentioned previously, Irene Avenue is a Class 2 Secondary Arterial and no vertical traffic calming measures should be implemented along such route. However, if “warranted” horisontal traffic calming measures could be considered.
It was observed that there are several warning signage located along the length of Irene Avenue, to warn of bends ahead, to gear down, 60km/h speed limits etc. Below is a drawing that was compiled for a section along Irene Road.
Signage - https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5YXNXjoEzVTNTQ5YTlkZGItMGFhNi00YWViLWEzZjItNmYwMmQxOGE1OWI4
There are only one amenity located along the length of Irene Avenue, namely Little Rascals Daycare, near the intersection of Irene Avenue/Dummer Street that could attract vulnerable pedestrian activity. However, in this area, parents do not normally drive to/from the day-cares with the little ones. Refer to the investigation for locality thereof.
We have in the past looked at a mini circle at Irene Avenue/Dummer Street, due to crashes that occur along Dummer Street through the intersection. However, due to levels, it wasn’t possible and would have been too costly to implement. We then designed chokers before entering the intersection as seen in the link below. This was never implemented. Do you maybe know why?
Proposed Upgrades - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5YXNXjoEzVTdFdIaXVpUy0wMmc/view?usp=sharing
The implementation of the proposed road upgrades would reduce travel speeds southbound past the day-care. Should we consider chockers in the vicinity of the day-care in a the westbound/northbound direction as well?
