Cllr Little introduced the motion by passionately acknowledging tremendous strides made by TCT Athlone District office in addressing and upgrading Road infrastructure in Ward 49. She highlighted the numerous traffic calming measures implemented by the Department in improving the road safety of pedestrians and community at large
Cllr Little expressed her high regards and sincere appreciation to both Walter Williams and Grant Rigby who have worked tirelessly in addressing all service delivery issues raised in Ward 49 from maintenance to upgrading matters.
Cllr Little further mentioned that the motions submitted to TCT Athlone District refers to a couple of outstanding issues which were discussed with Department and merely a continuation of work already started.
This Green Belt through Ward 49 has become the central point for the communities in the broader Athlone Area. Since 1982 this area has been identified for upgrading, creating a green in the area.
In view of the Historical planning for the area, I propose the following:-
1.All requests for traffic calm within the Areas of Bridgetown, Silvertown, Kewtown, Hazendal, Bokmakierie, Gleemoor, Alicedale, Athlone, Grasmere, and Parktown be considered.
2.These requests are placed on the budget for implementation.
3. An engineer is appointed to investigate the removal of the island in Protea Street Kewtown (in front) of Dulcie September Civic Centre and replaced with a traffic Circle.
4. An engineer is appointed to investigate the upgrading of the Sonneblom Circle in Bridgetown.
5. The Four Way Stop at Loerie and Blossom roads is replaced with Traffic Circle.
6. An engineer to be appointed to investigate the upgrading of Appledene road, between Blossom and Calendula Roads.
7. Traffic calming and embayment’s to be installed at the remaining schools in Ward 49, which have not yet been installed.
a. Sipress Avenue Bridgetown – infront of cypress Primary School and Peakview High school, both in the same road.
b. Raised Intersection at East Street and Elizabeth Driver Alicedale infront of the Alicedale Primary School.
c. 2 x speed humps; one between Lilac and Loerie Roads and one between Loerie and Cornflower Roads.
d. Extend the embayment at Alicedale Primary School further towards Carolina Street.
