RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY

That the application for a temporary land use departure, in terms of Section 42(c) of the of the City of Cape Town, Municipal Planning By-Law, 2015, in order to permit a liquor shop from a portion of Erf 8734, 14 Kanferboom Road, Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain BE REFUSED in terms of Section 98(c) of the City of Cape Town, Municipal Planning By-Law, 2015

REASONS FOR DECISION:

1. Taking into regard the broader social impact of alcohol abuse, the sale of alcohol within this specific residential context should be discouraged.
2. The proposed use is not compatible with surrounding land uses and is considered an inappropriate activity in an embedded residential precinct.
3. The proposal potentially poses negative impacts on the safety and well-being of the surrounding community.
4. The activity is not aligned with the principles of the City of Cape Town: Alcohol and Drug Strategy.
