Subcouncil Meeting Held - 23 October 2025 refers:
The Subcouncil Manager, Ms Jacob informed the meeting that the Ward 84 motion item 2 and item 4 is the same, the progress on the item it’s still with legal as we understand the implications around the moving of rough sleepers it’s a long process. but legal will also give a status update in the November 2025 meeting.
The Ward Councillor, Cllr McFarlane (Ward 84) informed the meeting that as a matter of fact, the eviction notices have already been served at the Beers Park and across the road from the Beers Park and Main Road and up against the fence of Southey Vines. Those eviction orders were served three days ago, and the rough sleepers that was there were removed. However, of course, what you will find is that they have come back already. Cllr McFarlane, therefore, requested for this item to remain on the agenda for the foreseeable future.
The community have come to me and said they've already started to resettle. And they were advised to report it to Law Enforcement on 021 480 7700.
The same applies to the other motion [Item 4] that Cllr McFarlane proposed which was to remove the rough sleepers from the Lourens River precinct between Main Road and School Street, those notices have not been served, so that will also need to remain on the agenda.
It was RESOLVED that;
a) The Motion: Ward 84 – To Request That a Plan of Action Be Provided Regarding the Permanent Removal of Illegal Land Occupiers from De Beers Park Precinct, Somerset West REMAINS part of the Matters Receiving Attention report until it is resolved.
