Ms. Xolelwa Lusithi was present to address the item. Councillor McKenzie would like to know whether the department has a plan to trim the trees in Bonteheuwel. A lot of trees are not maintained which causes risk to people and infrastructure. Ms. Lusithi said that the department will use a crane truck for the tree trimming.
Ald Smith requested that the Subcouncil should facilitate a legacy project with additional planting of trees and greening our communities within the Subcouncil. Ms. Lusithi said that they are introducing local trees. Councilors can get 10 trees per councilors for tree planting purposes. Councillor Esau required clarity regarding the booking of the cemeteries as it gets congested with burials being next to each other at Maitland Cemetery and in Welmoed Cemetery there is no demarcation. Ms. Lusithi said each cemetery has up to 60 burials on a Saturday. The burial companies do not stick to the timeslots provided, which causes problems.
