Resolution detail
RESOLVED that having considered the City of Cape Town Traffic Calming Policy
and the recommendation from Transport Planning & Network Management
Department;
a) Warwick Street, Woodstock between Searle Street and Ravenscraig Road is a class 5 Local Street with a road width of approximately 7m and an approximate road length of 195m with a stop street intersection located at Searle Street and Ravenscraig Road. There are public amenities in form of Social & Community parks, the Community Service Health Care and the swimming pool are all found along Upper Warwick Street with its entrance fronting directly at Upper Warwick Street and there are no adequate traffic calming measures in existence on the road in question. There is an adequate sidewalk provided on either side of Upper Warwick Street;
b) Given the above assessment and having considered the CoCT traffic calming policy and the accidents, we therefore believe that this road does have a potential for traffic calming measures in the form of one speed hump or raised pedestrian crossing mid-block, before the entrance of aforementioned amenities, but the final recommendation and decision will therefore depend on the Ward Cllr & Subcouncil and also the road grade;
c) Once recommended by both the Ward Cllr & Subcouncil, it should be noted that the TND Department will not be responsible for the cost and the project will then fall within the Ward Allocation budget or alternative, such as private funding.
