Resolution detail
Dr Loghday from City Health conducted a presentation on Tuberculosis and how the Department can stop the spread of the virus within communities.
Ald Limberg pointed out that the Department should be doing annual testing for Councillors as a target grouping. Councillors are always in contact with communities and can be carriers of the virus.
Cllr Siebritz suggested that testing be conducted within informal settlements on a regular basis as they do not always have access to nearby clinics.
The Chairperson recommended that educational awareness around TB should be done via social media as it reaches a broader network of people and can be done through the Subcouncil and ward councillor communication groups.
Dr Logday responded stating that a presentation could be conducted to Council and get the buy in from all councillors to be tested as a starting point. There is a mobile unit x-ray van that does go to the informal areas. |
