Resolution detail
UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED |
That based on the above assessment and having considered the City of Cape Town’s Traffic Calming Policy, a raised intersection NOT BE SUPPORTED along the intersection of Suikerbos Road and Tindale Way, Durbanville for the reasons as set out below, however a technical investigation ito a raised pedestrian crossing BE SUPPORTED and the outcome thereof be reported on.
REASONS FOR NON SUPPORT PROVIDED BY URBAN MOBILITY: AKHONA MASEKO
-
Suikerbos Road is a Class 5 residential road and Tindale Way is a Class 4 Collector Road located within a medium density residential area in Durbanville.
-
Traffic calming measures should first and foremost be provided to protect the most vulnerable road users where they occur in the largest numbers, specifically in the vicinity of public facilities. The roads adjacent to and leading to schools should therefore be the primary focus of the traffic calming programme.
-
Our assessment indicated that there are no schools or any public amenities along the intersection of Suikerbos Road and Tindale Way that may attract significant volumes of vulnerable pedestrian activity directly into the road and therefore pedestrian/vehicle conflict can be considered low on this road. .
