That the outcome of the investigation for road markings and signage along Azalea Avenue and Tritonia Drive, Vredekloof Heights BE NOTED and implementation as recommended be dealt with by the relevant line department:
-
That a “Slow Down” supplementary plate (IN11.4) be added to the existing warning sign. The existing “Slow” (GM7) road marking is to be removed by means of sandblasting and a new GM7 “Slow” road marking is to be within the centre eastbound lane. It is also recommended to paint a no-overtaking line (RM1) along Azalea Avenue between Yinlan Street and 30 Azalea Avenue, to prevent motorists from crossing over into the opposite lane.
-
The “Slow Down” supplementary plate sign (IN11.4) is to be placed according to SARTSM Volume 1, Chapter 5.2.5, “SUPPLEMENTARY PLATE sign IN11 may be used to give supplementary information related to the principal message of a regulatory, warning or diagrammatic guidance sign.”
-
The “Slow” word road markings (GM7) are to be painted according to SARTSM Volume 1, Chapter 7.4.7 “WORD MARKINGS are guidance markings GM7 which may be used when it is absolutely necessary to give additional guidance to road users. An appropriate, approved, ROAD MARKING SYMBOL shall always be used in preference to a word message.”
-
The no overtaking line (RM1) road markings are to be painted according to SARTSM Volume 1, Chapter 7.2.5, “ A no overtaking regulatory marking RM1 imposes a mandatory requirement that drivers of vehicles when such marking is used to the left of, or in place of, a dividing line marking WM3 to demarcate those portions of a roadway used by traffic travelling in opposite directions, shall: not drive a vehicle in such a manner that it is on the right side of such marking; not drive a vehicle in such a manner that it or any part of such vehicle crosses the no-overtaking lines marking; unless the vehicle is driven: to gain direct access to any land on the opposite side of the no-overtaking line; to gain direct access from any land to that portion of the roadway on the opposite side of the no-overtaking line; to pass a stationary obstruction in the roadway; provided that, in all instances, it is safe to do so.”
-
Refer to Drawing Numbers 4619/TNDN4493/01 and 4619/TNDN4493/02 (agenda pages 831 and 832) for the location of the recommended road markings and signage.
