Cllr Nikelo introduced the report and said that the report is for noting. He asked the officials to take the meeting through the report. Cllr Moses said that the MAYCO Member requested a list of problem trees in the areas and would like to know if Anthony Road have been looked at with regards to the roots in people’s properties and the pruning of trees in that area. He said that in the last meeting at Parow Civic there was discussion about the parks situated in between the Council Rental Units (CRUs), which are in a poor state. Mr. Cedras said that for the roots there is a process that need to be followed. He would like the Councilor to forward the details. The department respond on a complaint basis. He said that there are talks with Human Settlements regarding the maintenance of parks situated between the CRUs. He mentioned that the department can make use of the department’s transversal tender to clean and maintain the parks. Cllr Moses said that there are contradictions as the Parks Department employed Park Buddies for parks in the CRU’s and Anthony Road. They had a site visit with Bongiwe as they were looking into the root problem and emails were sent and Mr. Cedras was copied in the email. He said that he would like to know where the C3 notifications can be logged as some of the emails do not get attended to. Mr. Cedras said that the Councillors should log the C3 via the eServices Portal as they get notifications on reports. He further said that he can assist the Councilor with this. Cllr Nikelo said that he would like the exercise should be done for all Councillors to be able to log the notifications correctly. Ald Jacobs said that the area where it used to be housing office at the corner of Manenberg Avenue and Swartkop need to be turned into a park. The community uses it a dumping site. She also said she would like to know about the Park Buddies as she has been going around the area they are always not on site. She mentioned that she sent an email for a site visit at the Silverstream Park where all the equipment is broken and would like to know what the department can do to assist. Mr. Daniels said that the space belong to Human Settlements and the Subcouncil can drive the process of engaging the departments. He said that in the ACTT meeting it was agreed that we arrange a site visit for a number of parks in Manenberg. Mr. Cedras said he will wait for the invitation from the Subcouncil Office for the site visits. He said that the Park Buddies contracts ended in January 2024. Bongiwe is busy with another recruitment process and they will employ 5 peoplerom 1 st March 2024 till 30 June 2024. Ald Jacobs wanted the site visit for Silverstream park to be held this week. Mr. Cedras said they will be available for the visit. Cllr Cassiem asked when the pruning of trees will that be done and that some residents requested cutting of trees especially those that are hanging on top of the streetlights. He also mentioned that the play equipment in some parks need to be repaired. Mr. Cedras said that they do not repair play equipment weekly. The issue of frequently vandalized equipment need further engagement. He said that the pruning of trees get done as per the risk when there is an issue with the electricity wires. This need to be communicated with stakeholders as they need to switch off the lights to be able to cut the trees. He would like the Councillors to engage with him to come and explain to the community and Councillors how the process is done with the pruning of trees. Ald Jacobs noted the report seconded by Cllr Adams. There was unanimous agreement with the resolution. .
