Resolution detail

UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED

  1. That the outcome of the traffic calming assessments received during the period June 2023 BE NOTED.

  1. That the applicant(s), where applicable be informed of the outcome of their traffic calming requests with reference being made to the budget constraint where applicable.
  1. Ward 105:  Schoongezicht Road, Schoongezicht, Durbanville (TNDN3927).   Request for traffic calming received from Henk Laker.

That based on the assessment and having considered the City of Cape Town’s Traffic Calming Policy, additional traffic calming NOT BE SUPPORTED along Schoongezicht Street for the reason(s) as set out below.

REASONS FOR NON SUPPORT RECEIVED FROM TRANSPORT (Akhona Maseko)

  • Schoongezicht Street is a class 5 road located within a medium density residential area in Schoongezicht, Durbanville.
  • Traffic calming measures should first and foremost be provided to protect the most vulnerable road users where they occur in the largest numbers, specifically in the vicinity of public facilities. The roads adjacent to schools should therefore be the primary focus of the traffic calming programme.
  • Our assessment indicated that there is a play park at Schoongezicht Street (between Eland and Heerengracht), however this section of the road where the park is located has already been treated with 2x speed humps, no other additional public amenities like day-care’s, play parks etc. have been identified on this road.
