Activity Day Meeting - 6 October 2021
Siphelele Mehlo reported that the investigation was done for a four-way stops at Bakkerskloof & Stellenberg Road however it was proven to be not warranted and the memo was submitted to the Subcouncil.
Cllr Peck raised his frustration and stated that the Department need to come up with a plan as cars speed on that road and the four-way stop would have assisted in slowing cars down get them to yield.
The Chairperson suggested to look at the broader traffic management plan for that area as a whole as there is also a similar situation in Ward 84 as well and to engage and see what can be done and Mr Mehlo agreed to the suggestion though they follow the criteria as set out in the policy and cannot bypass it as to how it should be implemented.
Solomzi agreed to discuss the matter but that there is a road signs manual and work according to it but also stressed that it is purely lawless behaviour that is being dealt with.
The Chairperson stated that he understood what is being said and that this should be part of the discussion and the City need to do everything in its power to prevent lawless behaviour and implement engineering mechanisms to assist.
Cllr Peck wanted to know whether the regulations are City or National regulations and compare it to Stellenbosch the manner in which they are operating where they have cameras and stops signs all over the place and if they can do it why not the City of Cape Town.
RESOLVED
The Subcouncil to arrange a meeting with Solomzi, Siphelelo, Cllr Peck and Ald Pringle to discuss the matter in detail.
That the item REMAINS on the MRA’s.
