Resolution detail
23SUB10/9/2020:Cllr Elton Jansen submitted the motion to requested the support of Subcouncil 23 to develop regional parks which should be located centrally in the ward, to promote people to walk to the park.
Cllr Jansen explained that parks played a very important role in our communities as it promoted an outside healthy living especially for our children. Children should be encouraged to play outside to improve their motorised skills and holistic development.
The challenge in Subcouncil 23 was that there were many parks and councillors could not reach all parks with ward allocation. One needed to spend at least R200 000 per park to make a significant impact and most councillors scatter their parks ward allocation budget between various parks and therefore the community could not see what the City of Cape Town has completed. Many times councillors were accused of not doing nothing.
Cllr Jansen requested that the Recreation and Parks Department develop at least one regional park in each ward. This must include but not limited to the following:
-
Fencing, gym equipment, play equipment for children,
-
a bore hole for irrigation,
-
landscaping and operational funding for EPWP workers to maintain the parks.
These parks should be well located to avoid vandalism. It must be located centrally in the ward to promote people to walk to the park, etc.
In view of the above, it was RECOMMENDED that:
-
Subcouncil 23 SUPPORT the motion to develop regional parks in Subcouncil 23 one per ward.
