Meeting date: 22/04/2021
Activity Day Meeting: 28 April 2021
Lanese Hesselman of Solid Waste reported that the site visit was conducted with Roads Department, Cllr Isaacs and Christopher Zandberg and it was clear from visit that Roads Department were unable to accommodate a drop-off on the facility and this was also indicated on the meeting and to share with them the plan or the idea that they had at the Depot but because of the activity and the plans for the Depot, Roads was very adamant that they cannot accommodate the drop off on that piece of property. it was suggested by Mr Zandberg to revisit the Macassar area and look for a suitable site and maybe drive the project through their MURP branch. This project won’t commence anytime soon because they thought it would be easy at the Roads Depot because they were able to put down the existing infrastructure as it was conducive to get some operation swiftly but because of the hold up now she is not sure where the project will be going
The Chairperson stated that if they are going to deal with MURP that they need to get everything in writing as they are very difficult to deal with and to deal with as soon as possible rather than later.
Cllr Isaacs agreed to what Ms Hesselman was saying and unfortunately that they won’t be assisted by Roads at their Depot. It was discussed to get assistance from MURP the property opposite the Roads yard for hard surfacing and fencing and also to look for alternative sites that are hard surfaced in Macassar and unfortunately there is nothing in the area that is prepared for a intervention of this nature. He is also not sure if he should amend the motion to requesting MURP for assistance or withdraw the motion.
The Chairperson suggested to withdraw the motion and bringing a more formal motion where Cllr Isaacs sets out in detail who he would like to have engage with would probably serve the purpose better and to consider not only looking in the Macassar area but also the surrounding areas where a site might be appropriate so that he don’t limit himself in the boundaries of Ward 109 or Macassar more specifically. The Chairperson also thanked the Lanese Hesselman for the report.
Cllr Isaacs agreed to the request of the Chairperson to withdrawn the motion and bring a follow-up motion to the Subcouncil.
RESOLVED
That the item be REMOVED from the MRA’s as the Roads Depot could not accommodate a drop-off at their facility and that Cllr Isaacs will bring a new motion to the Subcouncil requesting assistance from MURP.
