Ward 103: La Vie Est Belle Retirement Village, Marimba Crescent, Sonstraal Heights (TNDN2442): Traffic Calming (Speed Humps)
That traffic calming in Marimba Crescent, at La Vie Est Belle Retirement Village NOT BE SUPPORTED for the following reasons:
Transport (Siphelele Mehlo): Reason(s) for Non-Support:
-
According to the Traffic Calming Policy traffic calming measures are first and foremost provided to protect the most vulnerable road users where they occur in the largest numbers, specifically in the vicinity of public facilities. The policy prioritises calming measures on residential roads adjacent to public facilities. Traffic calming is not typically used to discourage rat-running.
-
Marimba Crescent is classified as a Class 5 Local Street. There are no public facilities along Marimba Crescent that could warrant traffic calming. La Vie Est Belle Retirement Village access gate is located on Marimba Crescent, but it is not considered “public” facility that generates large volumes of vulnerable road users.
-
There is no opportunity for rat-running through Marimba Crescent, therefore most (if not all) traffic is attributable to the residents. There are no driveway accesses along Marimba Crescent over the portion in front of La Vie Est Belle – this is likely the reason for the alleged speeding. However, claims of speeding alone cannot be used to warrant traffic calming.
FURTHER RESOLVED
