Economic resources and publications<h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​Economic Performance Indicators</h2><p>Formerly known as the State of the Cape Town Economy, the EPIC provides relevant and up-to-date information on Cape Town's economy. This includes statistics and an analysis of key economic trends, which provide direction for economic development strategies. It also helps to nurture a positive relationship with the formal business sector by providing a stable regulatory and flexible management environment that is predictable, empowering and sustainable. This is done by developing new trading areas and upgrading existing informal trading areas in terms of the City’s <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Informal%20Trading%20By-law.pdf" target="_blank">Informal Trading By-law</a> and the <a href="https://www.gov.za/documents/businesses-act-12-may-2015-1524" target="_blank">Businesses Act 71 of 1991<i class="icon link-external"></i></a> where applicable.</p><p> <b>Informal Trading Implementation Plan</b><br>The plan forms the second part of our <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Informal%20Trading%2c%202013%20-%20%28Policy%20number%2012664%29%20approved%20on%2026%20September%202013.pdf" target="_blank">Informal Trading Policy</a>, and provides a detailed outline for its implementation. Some of the issues that need to be detailed in the implementation plan include an Informal Trading Infrastructure Investment Plan as well as the norms and standards that will be applied in implementing the trading infrastructure.</p><p> <b>Investment Incentives Policy</b><br>The <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Investment%20Incentives%20Policy.pdf" target="_blank">Investment Incentives Policy</a> provides financial and non-financial incentives that help foster increased opportunities for economic participation through sustainable employment creation. This document outlines and guides incentives to attract investment in Cape Town.</p><p> <b>Business Support Facilities Management Guidelines Framework</b><br>One of the City’s responsibilities is to manage the more than <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/work%20and%20business/doing-business-in-the-city/business-support-and-guidance/smmes">60 “business hives”</a> (small trading, artisan or business facilities), kiosks and stalls across the city, and ensure that they function correctly (for the purposes for which they were built) and that agreements are in place with tenants or managers. These <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Procedures%2c%20guidelines%20and%20regulations/Rules%20for%20Informal%20Traders%20Pamphlet.pdf" target="_blank"> management guidelines</a> aim to ensure that these facilities operate efficiently, in line with the City’s business support and job creation objectives.</p><p> <b>Business Support Policy</b><br>The <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Business%20Support%20-%20Policy%20number%2046489%20approved%20on%2031%20May%202018.pdf" target="_blank">Business Support Policy​</a> focuses on creating an enabling and supportive environment for businesses to grow and develop. It is under review at present.</p><p> <b>Urban Agriculture Policy</b><br><a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Urban%20Agricultural%20Policy%20for%20the%20City%20of%20Cape%20Town%20-%20approved%20on%2007%20December%202006.pdf" target="_blank">This policy</a> strives to create a common vision for urban agriculture in the City of Cape Town and aims to identify key enabling imperatives and strategic objectives to guide urban agricultural development.</p><p> <b>Informal Trading Policy</b><br>Our <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Informal%20Trading%2c%202013%20-%20%28Policy%20number%2012664%29%20approved%20on%2026%20September%202013.pdf" target="_blank">Informal Trading Policy</a> aims to drive informal trading as a positive development in the micro business sector and to support the sector's capacity to contribute to job creation and the expansion of the city's economic base.
