Both cities were chosen to establish them as gateway partners for US-Africa partnerships. Actions undertaken within this framework are intended to benefit each of these cities in the above-mentioned fields.

Read or download the Atlanta Letter of Intent

City of Malmö, Kingdom of Sweden

Memorandum of Understanding
Date signed: 22/09/2016

Purpose:
The partnership is based on the mutual challenge of how to create more sustainable cities. Both cities are segregated into affluent areas with high income and less affluent areas with a variety of social ills. The idea is, therefore, to work with social inclusion, but from a planning perspective – taking into account the economic, social and cultural barriers. A key focus is also to use the concept of green urban areas as learning spaces and meeting places. However, according to the Sustainable Energy Markets (SEM) Department, the partnership has been on hold since 2016. The inception phase of the partnership was completed in 2015 and the Inception Report was finalised in early 2016.

Read or download the Malmö Memorandum of Understanding

City of Monterrey, United Mexican States

Sisterhood Agreement
Date signed: 22/11/2016

Purpose:
The aim of the agreement between the two cities is to build value in:

Economic development;

Urban development;

Culture, and;

Tourism.

Read or download the Monterrey Sisterhood Agreement

City of Hangzhou, People's Republic of China

Memorandum of Understanding
Date signed: 17/09/2015

Purpose:
To focus on promoting communications and cooperation in the fields of economy, tourism and education, by creating a two-way business platform to encourage mutual trade and investment.
