We manage over 16 <a href="">nature reserves</a> and undertake conservation planning, environmental education, skills development and invasive alien species management. Job creation is an important component of our work.</p><p> <strong>Coastal Management Branch</strong><br>We assume accountability and management of the city’s coastline (seaward of the defined Coastal Edge) so as to ensure ongoing economic growth and opportunities, increased access and social value, coastal risk reduction and the management and conservation of the natural coastal environment and systems.</p><p> <strong>Environmental Compliance Branch</strong><br>We help the City comply with environmental laws, policies and procedures. Our work includes conducting environmental compliance inspections and environmental audits of City facilities, and guiding other departments in developing environmental management systems to protect the environment. We also undertake civil and criminal environmental law enforcement and provide environmental spatial data for biodiversity, wetlands and the coast. We also facilitate service delivery by providing an environmental screening, advisory and review service to enable line departments to adhere to and progress through the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations and other Specific Environmental Management Acts (such as the Water Act) without hindrance. This Branch also contributes to environmental sustainability and planning through development and integration of tools such as Environmental Management Frameworks into the City’s <a href="">Spatial Development Framework</a>.</p><p> <strong>Environmental and Heritage Branch</strong><br>We are responsible for environmental and heritage monitoring, procedures and projects. This includes enforcing compliance with environmental, heritage and outdoor advertising legislation and policies. We work with communities to maintain and enhance our shared environmental and cultural heritage through a range of projects and programmes.</p><p> <strong>Environmental Planning and Sustainability Branch</strong><br>We coordinate and facilitate the implementation of clear and up-to-date <a href="" target="_blank"> environmental strategy</a> and policy, and work to embed sustainability principles in all sectors throughout the city.
