Register a boreholeRegister a borehole<img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/City%20Connect%20Header%20Image.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /><div class="ExternalClass950B721F3EB94B46AA47227D73409AE6"><p>Boreholes and wellpoints are a great way to conserve valuable drinking water and save you money on water bills. They also have an impact on the environment, however, and must be well regulated and monitored. If you have a borehole or wellpoint on your property, then you are required to register it with the City. This is done for environmental research and monitoring purposes only and not for billing. </p></div><span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​How to register</h2></span> <p> <strong>Step 1: </strong>Send an email to <a href="mailto:water@capetown.gov.za"><em>water@capetown.gov.za</em></a>. Include the following in your email:</p><ul><li>your full name and contact number;</li><li>the address of the property where the borehole or wellpoint is situated;</li><li>the erf number of the property where the borehole or wellpoint is situated;</li><li>your City of Cape Town account number; and</li><li>whether you are registering a wellpoint or borehole.</li></ul> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Please note</h4><p>You must <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Apply/Municipal-services/Water-and-sanitation/Apply-to-sink-a-borehole-or-wellpoint-or-use-an-alternative-source-of-water">apply for a new borehole or wellpoint</a> at least 14 days before they are sunk. Registration is required after your borehole or wellpoint has been sunk.</p></div></div></span> <p> <strong>Step 2: </strong>​​​​​​​​​​Once you have registered, you will receive a free sign to display on your property. This is a legal requirement during water restrictions and is necessary to avoid fines issued by water inspectors.​​​</p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Water restrictions</h4><p> No water restrictions are in effect from 1 November 2020.
