Submit your sustainable products for the remediation of Milnerton Lagoon
About

Purpose:

We are looking for information on a sustainable product used for the remediation of natural water bodies where pollution has resulted in the build-up of organic matter in the sediments. This includes freshwater and estuarine/marine habitats.

To understand which product will be most effective, we want to evaluate a range of products for potential trial and utilisation at the Milnerton Lagoon.

Background

The Milnerton Lagoon is one of several water bodies in Cape Town impacted by treated and untreated wastewater pollution. The pollution compromises the recreational and/or ecological use of these water bodies.

The lagoon is affected by anoxic sludge of up to one meter deep, which affects the ecological functioning of the lagoon, and results in a strong odour associated with the release of hydrogen sulphide and other gases.

Various mechanisms exist to address the removal and elimination of contaminated sediment, including the use of bio-enzymes, chemicals and physical interventions. We are currently exploring a wide range of potential interventions that might improve conditions in the Milnerton Lagoon.

Evaluation criteria

Read the RFI 024/2022/2023 notice for more information.

Submit your product

To have your submissions considered, all you need to do is submit the required samples and product information as indicated in the RFI 024/2022/2023 notice.

The deadline for submissions is 12:00 on Friday, 3 March 2023.

All suppliers of suitable products are invited to respond.
