<h2 class="sectHeading">About</h2></span>
<p>The
<a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/City%20strategies%2c%20plans%20and%20frameworks/Bellville_CBD_LSDF.pdf" target="_blank">Bellville CBD Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) </a>was approved by Council in December 2023, and aims to guide the
<a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/general/bellville-cbd-local-spatial-development-framework">regeneration of the Bellville CBD </a>as the City’s second metropolitan node. We also developed a
<a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/City%20strategies%2c%20plans%20and%20frameworks/Bellville-Public-Realm-Strategy.pdf" target="_blank">Public Realm Strategy</a> for the Bellville CBD to guide short-term initiatives that enhance safe pedestrian experiences and contribute to the long-term development goals outlined in the LSDF. </p><p>In line with the LSDF and the Public Realm Strategy, we plan to upgrade Charl Malan Street into a quality public environment, which reduces conflict between pedestrian activities, informal trading and private vehicles. </p><p> To achieve this, we are proposing access restrictions and changes to the movement network, including: </p><table style="width:620px;"><thead><tr><th>Road</th><th>Proposed impact </th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Charl Malan St – section between South St and Wilshammer St</td><td><br>The existing two-way carriageway will be converted to a one-way carriageway in the northbound direction with managed and restricted vehicular access. </td></tr><tr><td>Charl Malan St – section between Wilshammer St and Church St </td><td>This road section will stay as it is now.</td></tr><tr><td>Charl Malan St – section between Church St and the southern boundary of the Eskom property</td><td>The existing two-way carriageway will be converted to a one-way carriageway in the northbound direction with managed and restricted vehicular
access and access control at the southern and northern end.</td></tr><tr><td rowspan="1">Charl Malan St – section between the southern boundary of the Eskom property and Voortrekker Rd</td><td rowspan="1">This road section will remain as it is now.</td></tr></tbody></table>
