Comment on the proposed road infrastructure upgrades in MuizenbergComment on the proposed road infrastructure upgrades in Muizenberg<img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/CityConnectHeader.png" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /><div class="ExternalClassAA538A2900664548990C44E75665EAFB"><p>The City’s <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Departments/Urban%20Mobility">Urban Mobility Directorate </a>intends to upgrade road infrastructure in Muizenberg, and we want to hear from you.</p></div><span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​About​​​​​​​</h2></span> <p>This project forms part of the City’s <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/City%20strategies%2c%20plans%20and%20frameworks/CITP_2023-2028.pdf" target="_blank">Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan</a> and Congestion Relief Programme.</p><p>The proposed road infrastructure upgrades aim to:</p><ul><li>increase road network capacity; and </li><li> improve the operations of public transport, active mobility, goods and services, and private transport.</li></ul><p>The following roads will be affected:</p><h4>Royal Road (Vlei Road to Prince George Drive)</h4><ul><li>Dual carriageway - Vlei Road to Prince George Drive </li><li>Non-motorised transport – 5 m wide shared pedestrian and cyclist facilities on the southern side of the road from Vlei Road to Prince George Drive </li><li>Royal Road parking – formalise parking on the both sides of Royal Road from Vlei Road to Prince George Drive and reconfigure the existing parking opposite Axminster Road with a new full access opposite Recreation Road </li><li>Public Transport – provision for existing and proposed public transport embayments </li><li>Royal Road / Beach Road / Vlei Road intersection – conversion to a dual lane roundabout with pedestrian crossings on all approaches </li><li>Royal Road / Axminster Road intersection – conversion to a left-in/left-out system with a median barrier </li><li>Royal Road / Recreation Road intersection – conversion to a full access signalised intersection, widened approach lanes, and a 2 m sidewalk along Recreation Road </li><li>Royal Road / Margate Road intersection - conversion to a left-in/left-out system with a median barrier </li><li>Royal Road / Sunrise Boulevard intersection - conversion to a left-in/left-out system with a median barrier </li><li>Royal Road /Baden Powell Drive / Prince George Drive intersection – conversion to a dual lane roundabout with two approach and receiving lanes on all legs and new pedestrian crossings</li></ul><h4>Baden Powell Drive (Prince George Drive to Sanderling Road)</h4><ul><li>Dual carriageway -
