<h2 class="sectHeading">About</h2></span>
<p>Road users deserve to move safely, whether they are walking, cycling, taking public transportation, or driving. Families, communities, and daily travel across Cape Town are all impacted by road safety.</p><h4>The strategy provides a coordinated framework for:</h4><ul><li>identifying priorities, </li><li>guiding interventions, and </li><li> informing decision-making related to road safety planning, implementation and monitoring.</li></ul><p>The City is responsible for leading the development, coordination and oversight of road safety initiatives in line with the Road Safety Strategy.</p><p>The
<a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/City%20strategies%2c%20plans%20and%20frameworks/City_of_Cape_Town_Road_Safety_Strategy.pdf" target="_blank">previous Road Safety Strategy </a>covered the period up to 2018. In order to ensure continued improvement and alignment with evolving needs, we are now developing an updated strategy that takes into account current conditions and emerging road safety challenges.</p><p>We developed the draft Road Safety Strategy through a collaborative process that included the 2023 “<em>Call for Ideas: Road Safety Campaign</em>”, which gathered public insights and perceptions on road safety in Cape Town. The campaign generated over 3000 public comments, all of which were carefully considered and informed the development of the Road Safety Strategy.</p><p>In terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, you can submit comments to the municipality in respect of the draft strategy.</p><h4>Access the documents:</h4><ul><li>
