Comment on the draft mobile business trading areas for mobile businesses with permits<span> <h2 class="sectHeading">About</h2></span> <p> The City is in the process of developing a Mobile Business Policy to enable a permitting mechanism that will support interest from mobile businesses. </p><p> Currently, we deal with enquiries by mobile business operators - specifically food truck operators - on an ad-hoc basis. This ad-hoc approval process is inconsistent and unclear in the way that mobile business operators are able to access and activate their markets. </p><p> Mobile business operators are generally associated with informal trading vendors, however, there is are distinct differences between the two, namely:</p> <span> <div class="mobile-scroll"><br> <table style="width:515px;"><thead><tr><th style="width:249px;">Mobile business operators</th><th>Informal traders</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td style="width:249px;">operate from self-contained vehicles and leverage their mobility as a key success factor in their business models.</td><td>are typically allocated specific, permanent, and immobile bays from which to operate.</td></tr><tr><td style="width:249px;">are often registered businesses.</td><td>are not registered businesses or entities.</td></tr></tbody></table></div></span> <p>In addition, the public offering, operating model, and target market of the two types of operators are distinctly different. </p><p>This schedule of trading areas is important because it: </p><ul><li>will enable the creation and regulation of mobile business trading areas </li><li>represents City innovation </li><li>is a key component in the City’s development of its draft Mobile Business Policy</li></ul><p>With this schedule, we aim to:</p><ul><li>respond to the increased market demand for mobile business operations </li><li>support local economic development and the positive utilisation of public places by supporting an emergent form of formal business activity</li></ul><p>Your input will help us develop a comprehensive and public-supported regime for the management of mobile business operators on City land.</p><h4>Access the documents:</h4><ul><li>Advert (<a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/HYS_DRAFT_MOBILE_BUSINESS_English.pdf" target="_blank">English</a> | <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/HYS_DRAFT_MOBILE_BUSINESS_Afrikaans.pdf">Afrikaans</a> | <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/HYS_DRAFT_MOBILE_BUSINESS_Xhosa.pdf" target="_blank">isiXhosa</a>) </li><li><a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/City%20strategies%2c%20plans%20and%20frameworks/Draft_Mobile_Business_Trading_Areas.pdf" target="_blank">Proposed mobile business trading areas</a></li></ul><p>In terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, you can submit comments to the municipality in respect of the proposed mobile business trading areas. </p><h2 class="sectHeading">Comment period</h2><p>Submit your comments from <strong>15 May – 15 June 2023</strong>.</p><h2 class="sectHeading">Submit your comment</h2><p>Submit your comments via the following channels: </p><p> <strong>Online</strong><br> <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/_layouts/15/WebFeedback.SharePoint/webfeedback.aspx?id=%20556b1323-b340-4896-a375-d1b18fc75d15" target="_blank">Submit your comments online</a>.</p><p> <strong>Delivery</strong><br> Deliver your comments by hand to your local <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/Meet-the-City/City-Council/Find-your-councillor-ward-or-subcouncil">subcouncil office</a>.</p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note"></i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Please note</h4><p> Our Public Participation Unit will assist you if you would like to submit comments but have a disability or are unable to read or write.
