Comment on the proposed lease of City-owned property in MuizenbergComment on the proposed lease of City-owned property in Muizenberg<img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/CityConnectHeader.png" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /><div class="ExternalClass83DFD04B570D4D28B58BFEC2A14B19DA"><p>We are considering the lease of City-owned property in Muizenberg, and we want to hear from you.</p></div><span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​​​​About​​​​​​​<br></h2></span> <p>In accordance with section 16.5 and 16.6 of the <a href="http://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Management%20of%20Certain%20of%20the%20City%20of%20Cape%20Towns%20Immovable%20Property%20Policy%20-%20approved%20on%2026%20August%202010.pdf" target="_blank">Management of certain of the City of Cape Town’s Immovable Property Policy </a>(adopted by Council on 26 August 2010 C54/08/10) and Chapter 4 of the Municipal Asset Transfer Regulations (2008) we are considering the lease of the following City-owned property:</p> <span> <table style="width:555px;"><thead><tr><th>Erf/Farm number</th><th style="width:123px;">Extent (±Ha)​</th><th colspan="1">Street and suburb</th><th colspan="1">Current zoning</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td> Portions of Erven 85352 and 85959 Cape Town</td><td style="width:123px;">±  1, 034 hectares<br></td><td colspan="1"> Promenade Road, Muizenberg, Cape Town</td><td colspan="1">Open Space 2</td></tr></tbody></table>​​​</span> <p>We plan to lease the property to<strong> Zandvlei Sports Club (ZSC)</strong> or its successors-in-title for sporting purposes (yacht club, canoe club, stand-up paddling etc.).</p><h4>Information statement<br></h4><ul><li> <strong>Reason:</strong> the properties are not required for the provision of a minimum level of basic municipal service. </li><li> <strong>Expected benefit:</strong> the properties are underutilised, surplus to Council’s requirements, no demand exist for same, and the leases will furthermore relief Council of a maintenance burden and generate funds for the City of Cape Town. </li><li> <strong>Expected proceeds: </strong>the city will receive a tariff related rental for the proposed lease for sporting (yacht club, canoe club, stand-up paddling etc.) purposes of R1 386.00 per annum inclusive of VAT, subject to any increase in terms of rental for land leased as determined from time to time by Council for a period of 10 years, with an option to renew for further 10 years, subject at any time to two months’ notice of termination. </li><li> <strong>Expected gain or loss: </strong>no loss will be incurred by the City arising from the granting of right; and </li><li> <strong>The proposed transaction includes a call for alternative proposals.</strong> The call for alternatives is not limited to a single bidder and should include the proposed rental, proposed use, (community opportunities and/or participation in the property;
