Support the Urban Gardening Project Support the Urban Gardening Project <img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/City%20Connect%20Header%20Image.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /><div class="ExternalClass691C4063A751422E86075060E0BC95F0"><p>​The <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Departments/Recreation%20and%20Parks%20Department">Recreation and Parks Department</a> runs an Urban Gardening Project that aims to facilitate and manage community involvement and participation in developing quality public open spaces.</p></div> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​​About </h2><p>Community gardening is an activity which contributes to health and well-being, positive social interaction, community building, environmental education and sustainability, and protection and use of open space. In addition to allowing community members to improve the environment around them, the project provides economic opportunities through skills development and horticulture. </p><h2 class="sectHeading">Donate </h2> <p>The <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Departments/Recreation%20and%20Parks%20Department">Recreation and Parks Department</a> supplies the community gardeners with basic setup requirements such as seeds and compost, as well as on-going advice in terms of soil, seasonal planting and species selection. We require donations for equipment, time, skills and services.</p> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​Volunteer </h2> <p>By encouraging greater participation in the community, we hope to contribute to environmental education and sustainability as well as increase health and wellbeing, positive social interaction, and community capacity building.
