<a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/See-all-City-facilities/Our-service-facilities/Fire%20stations">fire stations</a>, taking into account the need to report to the station within a reasonable amount of time. There are four different categories of reservists to carry out a range of functions. </p><h4>These categories are: </h4><ul><li>responding to alarms and assisting in the suppression of fire including rescue, entry, ventilating, and salvage work;</li><li>performing clean-up and overhaul after an emergency;</li><li>making checks and doing maintenance to ready equipment for service; and</li><li>responding to medical incidents, amongst a range of various functions.</li></ul><h2 class="sectHeading">Apply<br></h2><p>Register on the <a href="https://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/volunteers" target="_blank">City's Volunteer Portal<i class="icon link-external"></i></a> to apply for volunteer opportunities.<br></p>

<br>Members will be expected to work a minimum of 160 hours per year.
