Volunteer as a reservist firefighter<h2 class="sectHeading">About<br></h2><p>The Chief Fire Officer will station volunteers at any of the City’s 30 <a href="">fire stations</a>, taking into account the need to report to the station within a reasonable amount of time. There are four different categories of reservists to carry out a range of functions. </p><h4>These categories are: </h4><ul><li>responding to alarms and assisting in the suppression of fire including rescue, entry, ventilating, and salvage work;</li><li>performing clean-up and overhaul after an emergency;</li><li>making checks and doing maintenance to ready equipment for service; and</li><li>responding to medical incidents, amongst a range of various functions.</li></ul><h2 class="sectHeading">Apply<br></h2><p>Register on the <a href="" target="_blank">City's Volunteer Portal<i class="icon link-external"></i></a> to apply for volunteer opportunities.<br></p> <span> <div class="lrg-icon-content bordered"><div class="lrg-icon lrg-check"><p> <b>To qualify, you must:</b></p><ul><li>be a South African citizen</li><li>reside in Cape Town<br></li><li>be between the age of 16 and 60<br></li><li>have a clean criminal record<br></li></ul> </div></div></span> <p>For detailed information on requirements, you can contact the <a href="">Fire and Rescue Service Department</a>. <br> <br>Members will be expected to work a minimum of 160 hours per year.
