Get Grants-in-Aid funding<h2 class="sectHeading">Grants-in-Aid 2023/24<br></h2><p>Our Arts and Culture Branch is inviting arts, culture and heritage organisations and institutions in Cape Town to submit applications for funding. <br></p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Please note</h4><p> The closing date for applications is <strong>17:00 on Saturday, 28 October 2023</strong>. No late or incomplete applications will be considered.<br></p></div></div></span> <h4>Proposals should focus on projects that: </h4><ul><li>contribute to building hope through sustainable cultural development (taking cultural, social, economic and environmental outputs into account), and </li><li>serve young people or vulnerable groups as the primary beneficiaries.<br><br>‘<em>Young people</em>’ includes ages 7-35 and <br>‘<em>Vulnerable groups</em>’ includes women, children, senior citizens and people living with disabilities.</li></ul><h4>Projects should aim to:</h4><ul><li>Foster an appreciation for the arts, creativity, heritage and diversity </li><li>Provide beneficiaries with positive activities and transferable skills </li><li>Introduce beneficiaries to career possibilities in the cultural and creative sectors </li><li>Support emerging and early career artists, designers and cultural practitioners</li></ul><p>The term ‘Projects’ includes programmes, productions, performances, public activations and exhibitions. Projects will only be considered if they fit into the following categories: </p><div class="content-accordion"><div class="content-trigger contentTrigger"><h3>See all categories<i class="icon button-down-arrow"></i></h3><div class="content-toggle contentToggle" style="display:none;"><p> <strong>Temporary public art</strong><br> These types of projects should seek to engage sensitively and inventively with public spaces throughout the city, to foster creative expression, stimulate dialogue, and enhance public life. Applicants must consider whether their project can do two or more of the following:</p><ul><li>Respond to themes of people and place – both past and present; contribute to cultural identity; create a sense of pride<br></li><li>Contribute to safer public spaces in local communities<br></li><li>Be enjoyed, and experienced by people of different ages and cultural backgrounds<br></li><li>Respond to the challenge of climate change through sustainable design and fabrication<br></li><li>Be developed through a collaborative approach</li></ul><p> <strong>Visual and performing arts</strong><br> These types of projects should aim to do two or more of the following:</p><ul><li>Produce new creative ideas, connections and forms of knowledge<br></li><li>Bring about social integration and inclusion<br></li><li>Combat social ills such as xenophobia, gender-based-violence, drugs and gangsterism<br></li><li>Increase understanding of ecological issues, value of the natural world, motivation for environmental stewardship<br></li><li>Contribute to skills development, entrepreneurship and employment<br></li><li>Attract partnerships and collaborations </li></ul><p>Applicants should also take issues of accessibility into account and consider whether the project can:</p><ul><li>Take place in new or unexpected places <br></li><li>Be experienced throughout the city and at different times of the day or night; appeal to new or underserved audiences</li><li>Be free or low cost</li></ul><p> <strong>Heritage Awareness and Storytelling</strong><br> These types of projects should do two or more of the following:</p><ul><li>Empower young people to take an active role in shaping their identity<br></li><li>Make heritage more meaningful, relevant and accessible in the lives of young people through the use of digital technologies, augmented and virtual realities<br></li><li>Tell the under-represented stories of the city in a way that would be relevant to young people </li><li>Promote cultural diversity, social cohesion and a sense of belonging<br></li><li>Bring the diverse and hidden heritages to light in a way that engages audiences and creates a sense of community, identity and shared history<br></li></ul><p> <strong>Therapeutic interventions</strong><br> These types of projects should help develop and support the social wellbeing of individuals, families and communities; and may include an arts therapeutic approach, or strive to use arts, culture and creative activities to assist vulnerable people in overcoming stress, trauma and disability, resulting in positive emotional, cognitive, physical and psychosocial change.<br></p></div></div></div><p>Download the advert for more information (<a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/GIA_ARTS_AND_CULTURE_English.pdf" target="_blank">English</a> | <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/GIA_ARTS_AND_CULTURE_Afrikaans.pdf" target="_blank">Afrikaans</a> | <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/GIA_ARTS_AND_CULTURE_xhosa.pdf" target="_blank">isiXhosa</a>).<br></p><div><div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info remember">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Remember</h4><ul><li>Only qualifying Grants-in-Aid applications will be considered for Grants-in-Aid funding. </li><li>Other Grant-in-Aid applications should be directed to the applicable funding department. </li><li>Subcouncil Grants-in-Aid funding requests must be <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/Meet-the-City/city-council/subcouncils">submitted via your local subcouncil office</a>.</li></ul></div></div></div><h2 class="sectHeading">Submission requirements</h2><p>All organisations should take note of the<a href="http://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Grants-in-Aid%20Policy.pdf" target="_blank"> Grants-in-Aid Policy</a>.</p><p>Make sure your organisation meets the qualifying criteria and that you provide all the required documentation when applying:</p><div class="content-accordion"><div class="content-trigger contentTrigger"><h3>Qualifying criteria<i class="icon button-down-arrow"></i></h3><div class="content-toggle contentToggle" style="display:none;"><p> <span aria-hidden="true"></span><strong>Qualifying applicants should ensure that they:</strong></p><ul><li>Are registered on National Treasury’s Central Supplier Database (​MAAA0524789 <a href="https://secure.csd.gov.za/" target="_blank">https://secure.csd.gov.za/<span class="icon link-external"></span></a> ) </li><li>Are <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Register/Business-and-trade/Register-as-a-supplier">registered on the City’s Supply Chain Management Database </a>as a supplier</li></ul><p> <strong>Both registration numbers are required on the Grants-in-Aid application form.</strong><br></p></div></div></div><div class="content-accordion"><div class="content-trigger contentTrigger"><h3>Supporting documents<i class="icon button-down-arrow"></i></h3><div class="content-toggle contentToggle" style="display:none;"><p> <span aria-hidden="true"></span><strong>Qualifying applicants should ensure that they:</strong></p><ul><li>Provide copies of IDs for all committee members/responsible officials </li><li>Provide a valid registration certificate (e.g. PBO/NPO certificate) </li><li>Provide a valid tax clearance certificate </li><li>Provide proof of bank account details </li><li>Provide a copy of the latest paid-up municipal account. If in arrears, a <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Pay/Municipal-accounts/Electricity/arrange-a-payment-plan-for-debt-collection">repayment arrangement </a>must be made in order to be eligible for grant-in-aid funding. If a lease agreement is in place, the paid-up municipal account must be provided, as well as the lease agreement.</li><li>Provide a copy of the organisation’s constitution / articles of incorporation</li><li>Provide details of the date of the establishment of the organisation and organisation type (NPO / Section 21 company)</li><li>Provide a copy of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) minutes (not older than 18 months) </li><li>Provide an income and expenditure statement as tabled at the previous AGM, if the grant-in-aid amount being applied for is less than R50 000 </li><li> Provide the latest annual financial statements, if the grant-in-aid amount being applied for is more than R50 000</li><li>Submit a zero-rated tax invoice with the City’s VAT number (4500193497), if registered as a VAT vendor </li></ul></div></div></div><h4>You will also need to provide the following information in order to complete the application forms:</h4><ul><li> A detailed business plan explaining the funding proposal applied for </li><li> A detailed description of the project, including breakdown of project costs, and start and end dates </li><li>Details of other funding received from the City for the current financial year, and previous funding received by the City </li><li>Information on how the allocation of a grant-in-aid will promote job creation and the estimated number of job opportunities it will create </li></ul><p>If your application is successful, expenditure on the approved project will start within two months after the Grants-in-Aid funds are deposited into your organisation’s bank account, as provided for in <a href="http://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/Grants-in-Aid%20Annexure%20B%20MOA.pdf" target="_blank">clause 8.8 of the MOA</a>. </p><h2 class="sectHeading">How to apply</h2><p>Ensure that you submit a completed application form along with all required supporting documentation. Failure to produce all relevant documentation will result in disqualification of the application.<br></p><p>Applications close at <strong>17:00 on 28 October 2023</strong>.
