This is a good way of saving money as you can limit your water and sanitation charges. </p></div><span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​Guidelines for indigent households</h2></span> <p> All indigent residents on the domestic tariff receive 6 kilolitres of water free every month (averaged over the year), after which you pay for water usage. If you are an indigent support household, you will receive an additional allocation of 4,5 litres of water.</p><p>If you are indigent, accepting a water management device can assist you in the following ways:</p><ul><li>Council fixes or replaces all faulty plumbing in your house free of charge (once-off repairs)</li><li>All your arrears are written off – no limit (once-off)</li><li>You receive 350 litres of water per day (10.5 kl per month) free of charge</li><li>The water demand management device is installed free of charge</li></ul><p> However, it is important to note that you will only be provided with 350 litres of water per day. Once 350 litres of water has passed through the device, you won't receive any more water until the device resets the next morning (usually at 04:00). Please keep a standby supply of water handy in case this happens. You will also be responsible for future plumbing repairs. </p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Please note</h4><p> <b></b>You can apply to increase your daily water limit, subject to proof of sufficient household income. </p></div></div></span> <span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​Installation of a water management device through indigent support​​​​​​​</h2></span> <p>If you are struggling to pay your municipal account, your combined household income is less than a certain threshold, and you are the registered owner of the property, you may <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Apply/Financial-relief-and-rebates/Individuals/Apply-for-indigent-rates-relief">apply for indigent support</a>.</p><p>If your application is successful, a water management device will be installed at no cost. Certain properties have already been added to the City’s indigent household database. If your property is already on this list, there is no need to apply. </p><p>A City contractor will visit you at home and a water management device will be installed at no cost. City contractors have a list of eligible customer details and visit homes according to a schedule. If you are not at home, the contractor will deliver a notice. All you need to do is to accept the conditions for the installation and provide the contractor with access to your property. </p> <span> <h2 class="sectHeading">How to apply for a water management device</h2></span><span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Please note</h4><p>The City's approach to domestic metering is being revised, with implementation planned for July 2021. Please read our <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Media-and-news/One%20week%20left%20to%20comment%20on%20proposal%20revised%20approach%20to%20domestic%20water%20metering">media release</a> in this regard for further information.<br></p></div></div></span> <p>If you don’t qualify for indigent support, but wish to install a water demand management device meter in order to manage your consumption, you can download and complete the Water Management Device Installation Application Form in the document downloads section below and submit your application to the nearest City <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Local%20and%20communities/See-all-City-facilities/Our-service-facilities/Walk-in%20centres">Walk-in Centre</a>.</p> <span> <div class="lrg-icon-content bordered"><div class="lrg-icon lrg-check"><p> <b>​​​​​​Include the following with your application:</b></p><ul><li>a copy of property owner’s ID (if there is more than one registered property owner, both IDs are required); and</li><li>a copy of your municipal account.</li></ul></div></div></span> <p>Once the application has been approved, the City will notify the owner via post and arrange for the installation.</p> <span> </span> <p>You can apply to <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Apply/Municipal-services/Water-and-sanitation/Apply-for-a-water-consumption-increase">increase your daily water limit</a>.
