<h2 class="sectHeading">How to register and licence a new vehicle</h2></span>
<p>Registering your new vehicle for licensing is an easy process as long as you have all the right documents. </p>

<b>You will need</b></p><ul><li>a manufacturer’s certificate with all vehicle details;</li><li>proof of purchase;</li><li>proof of address;</li><li>a copy of acceptable identification;</li><li>the registration and licence fee; and</li><li>valid roadworthy status for your vehicle (if you don't have a valid roadworthy status, the licence disc will not print).</li></ul></div></div></span>
<p>
<strong>Step 1:</strong> Get all your documents in order and make sure that they are all “appropriate” – which means can be accepted by the City. </p><p>For example, appropriate proof of address would have to come from a utility bill or any other official account documentary. Acceptable identification needs to be a South African ID or passport or driver’s licence.</p><p>
<strong>Step 2:</strong> Download and complete the Registration and Licensing of Motor Vehicle Application Form at the bottom of the page.</p><p>
<strong>Step 3:</strong> Gather all your documents and take to your nearest
<a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/See-all-City-facilities/Our-service-facilities/Motor%20vehicle%20registration%20centres">motor vehicle registration office</a> to submit and complete your new vehicle registration.</p><p>
<strong>Step 4:</strong> Once you have paid the registration and licence fee you will receive your vehicle licence disc, registration number and your registration papers. </p><p>
<strong>Step 5:</strong> Store the papers in a safe place; cut out the disc and stick in on the inside of your car. If you don't display it, you could be fined. </p>

<h2 class="sectHeading">Register and licence a used/pre-owned vehicle</h2></span>
<p>If you have purchased a used or pre-owned vehicle, then it is important to make sure that the car is registered and licensed under your name within 21 days after purchase.</p>

<strong>Step 2:</strong> Make sure that the seller completes a Notification of Change of Ownership Form, at the bottom of this page, and submits it to confirm change of ownership or that the seller gives proof of purchase </p><p>
<strong>Step 3:</strong> Download and complete the Registration and Licensing of Motor Vehicle Application Form at the bottom of the page.</p><p>
<strong>Step 4:</strong> Visit your nearest motor vehicle registration office to submit your documentation and complete your vehicle registration.</p><p>

<h2 class="sectHeading">Make an online appointment<br></h2>
<p>You can avoid queues by <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Book/walk-in-centre-bookings/how-to-make-a-walk-in-centre-booking">booking a slot </a>to register or renew your motor vehicle licence, pay your municipal account, make enquiries or make account payment arrangements. </p>
<p>This is only available at a few selected branches, however we are implementing the
<a href="https://bookings.capetown.gov.za/qmaticwebbooking/#/" target="_blank">booking facility</a> at more of our facilities in a phased approach. </p>
