Apply for a different motor vehicle number with the same licence mark

You must apply for a different motor vehicle with the same licence mark if you are getting a new or personalised number for your vehicle. You can also apply if you are wanting to transfer a number from one of your vehicles to another, or your licence number was illegally duplicated and you’re getting fines, or if it was stolen. To apply, you can follow the process below.

How to apply

You will need to provide:

a letter of authorisation from the Western Cape Government (WCG) motor vehicle authority to either allocate a specific or personalised number
copy of acceptable identification (private person/business)

Step 1: Download and complete the Licence Number for Motor Vehicle application form, which you can find in the document downloads below.

Step 2: Submit your application to the WCG by emailing it to npasrec@westerncape.gov.za.

Step 3: When your application is approved by the WCG, you will be required to licence the vehicle at your nearest registration and licensing office.

Please note

If you are just applying to transfer a number from one of your vehicles to another then you will only need a copy of acceptable identification.
