Apply for private seller permit

If you would like to sell your own house, then you must apply for a private seller permit. When you do, you will be issued with three permit stickers that are valid for three months. They are non-transferable and must be placed on your directional signs. You can apply for the permits following the guide below.

How to apply for a private seller permit

 

Please note

If you have not sold your house within three months of listing it, then you must apply for a new private seller permit.

Step 1: Download and fill in the Private Seller Property Market Permit Application Form, which you can find in the document downloads below.

Include with your application:

  • A certified copy of your ID
  • Proof of address
  • Your municipal business partner (BP) number – which can be found on your personal municipal rates invoice (if you do not have a business partner number, you will need to bring proof of address in order to create one)

Step 2: Submit your application at your nearest municipal office (see below).

You will be asked to pay the permit sticker fee calculated in terms of the City’s approved charges and tariffs. Please consult our Environmental and Heritage Management tariffs in the document downloads section below, for the required fee.

Step 3: Once your application is approved, you may put up your three directional boards with stickers.

 

Please note

Any faded or damaged stickers can be replaced at your local Municipal office, at no extra cost, only when the original faded or damaged stickers are produced.

Payment

We accept the following methods of payment:

  • Cash, debit and/or credit card: We will cover the bank cost on a cash, debit and/or credit card payment on an amount above R7000 per transaction. We absorb such costs in respect of single payments of R7000 and below.
  • Direct deposit at any Nedbank Branch: Insert your payment reference number on your deposit slip
  • Electronic payments (EFT): Select the City of Cape Town as a bank listed beneficiary on your bank's website. Use your 9 - digit reference number in the beneficiary account number/ payment reference field.
