Apply for an undertaker certificate
In order to conduct undertaker services in Cape Town, you will need to apply to be an undertaker in the City, and receive your undertaker’s certificate of competence. If you would like to apply, you can follow the process below.
How to apply
Download the Application for Issue or Transfer of Competence Certificate: Funeral Undertaker, which you can find in the document downloads below.
Complete the form as fully as possible, ensuring that you include as attachments:
- A description of the premises and its location.
- A complete ground-plan of the proposed construction of, or existing, buildings on a scale 1:100.
- A block plan of the surrounding buildings, who occupies them and what they are used for.
- The particulars of any person other than the owner and employees who will be preparing corpses on the premises.
Please note
If this is a new premises, this application cannot be processed until 21 days after you have published two notices in two different official languages in newspapers that circulate in the area in which such premises are situated.
