People with disabilities

Get involved with our sports and recreational activities designed for adults or children with disabilities. Our programmes range from sports and fitness to general wellness and support.   

Variety programmes

The activities offered by the facilities taking part in the City’s disability programme differ for each facility, from teaching art and craft techniques to a variety of sport and recreation projects. Please see the facilities listed below for individual programme details and schedules:

Sport and fitness

Basketball
People with disabilities who like to stay fit and active will enjoy this fast-paced, competitive sport. Currently, our basketball practice for people with disabilities is held at Delft South Hall. Please visit the facility for its individual programme schedule.

Floor hockey
The  offer regular indoor floor hockey games for people with mental disabilities. The game takes place in the centre’s hall and involves hockey sticks and a soft ball.

Floor hockey is currenly run at the Proteaville Recreation Centre. Please visit the faciilty page to for the programme schedule and more information.

Nompumelelo School for Disability programme

In summer, learners from the Nompumelelo School for Disability exercise or prepare for their sports day or inter-school athletics. The school, which caters to children with learning disabilities, also runs a soccer programme in winter and a cricket programme in summer.

The programme is currently takes place at the NY 49 Gugulethu Stadium. Please visit the faciilty page to for the programme schedule and more information.

Healthy Minds and Wellness programme

The programme is facilitated by the City’s Expanded Public Works Programme and teaches physical activities to primary school and high school students with special needs. Exercises include recreational games, running, stretching and a variety of other fun activities.

The programme is currently run for the LSEN School for children with disabilities and takes place at the Ocean View Multipurpose Centre. Please visit the faciilty page to for the programme schedule.
