Our Solid Waste Management Department hosts educational tours to raise awareness and encourage residents to take action and change the way that they dispose of their waste.

We hope to change the way people think about waste disposal and create a culture of environmental responsibility and awareness. By working together with all Capetonians, we aim to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills and empower our residents to minimise their waste and stop littering. Educators, learners and their families are important partners in the City's efforts.

Top tip for educators
We offer educational tours for learners from grade 4 and up to expose them to the waste stream journey.

Please note
Learners are required to have a parent/guardian complete and sign the consent form in the document download section at the bottom of the page before visiting the facility.
Conditions for booking a tour
- All learners are required to have a parent/guardian complete and submit the consent form before visiting one of our waste management facilities.
- A visit to the Waste Management facility is recommended for learners from Grade 4 and up.
- All school groups/minors must be under adult supervision.
- Groups are limited to 30 individuals per group. Split tours for larger groups can be requested. This is subject to the availability of staff.
- If you need to cancel your visit, you must provide written notice of the cancellation two weeks prior to the reserved date.
- School groups/minors are requested to maintain a minimum ratio of one teacher/adult for every 10 learners/minors.
- You should book at least one term in advance, but our Solid Waste Management Department will try to accommodate bookings at short notice.
