Resurfacing of various roads in Blackheath
22 June 2023
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise road users and businesses of roadworks along various roads in Blackheath. The work will be done on various segments of Malabar Crescent, Buitenzor, Wanderer, Bellona, Vineyards, Meadow, Drakenstein, Franschhoek, Madeleine, Petro, Robert, Rodger and Boby Street in Blackheath. The work is scheduled to start today, 22 June 2023, between 07:30 and 17:00 on weekdays until 30 June 2023.
The details of the repair work are as follows:
• Removing the existing asphalt surfacing and replacing the old surface with hot asphalt
• Reinstating the road markings
The affected roads will not be entirely closed. Instead, Stop and Go lane closures will be implemented. Road users must please adhere to the traffic accommodation signage and posted speed limits in these areas. Upon completion, all the road-markings that existed before the resurfacing work will be reinstated.
‘I ask that residents in the area cooperate and be patient with our team on the ground over the next two weeks as we complete the work along these roads. Motorists should consider using alternative routes, if at all possible. But, rest assured that the resurfacing of these roads will benefit the entire community in the long run,’ said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
