City attends to a cable fault in Rondebosch East City attends to a cable fault in Rondebosch East
The City’s Electricity teams are on site to attend to a cable fault in Rondebosch East, which has affected the supply to households in Rondebosch East and surrounds. The City absolutely condemns the verbal abuse on City employees while they are attending to the damaged infrastructure. We ask residents to allow the City’s teams to carry out their work and not to interfere so that electricity supply can be restored as soon as possible.

The City attended to two unrelated electricity cable faults in the Rondebosch East area over this weekend and are currently on site to attend to a third fault. We ask residents to be patient while officials work to restore supply. It is often not possible to give an exact time for restoration where damage to infrastructure is involved and where an outage affects a large area.

‘Our teams have attended to two recent faults in two areas of Rondebosch East within the last few days. The cause of all faults were as a result of cable damage. We have experienced an increase in electricity service requests during periods of inclement weather, typically resulting in infrastructure damage.

‘In general, restoration times for cable faults are often difficult to share with residents, as our teams need to locate and isolate each fault before carrying out repairs. Due to the complexity of a particular fault and voltage of cable infrastructure, repairs and restoring of electricity supply often takes time.

‘While we understand the frustration of some residents, we cannot allow our staff to be intimidated and verbally abused while on duty to restore power to an area. We thank residents for their patience while we carry out the repairs as a matter of urgency,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Councillor Beverley van Reenen.

End

2023-06-20T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#b195be29-9300-4dc7-ac99-92629ce847ac;L0|#0b195be29-9300-4dc7-ac99-92629ce847ac|electricity;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#3e84e2ed-3e2d-44ae-a5b6-af54ef207755;L0|#03e84e2ed-3e2d-44ae-a5b6-af54ef207755|maintenance;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#0c4188de-8fd0-4c65-ad50-f8de6fb0dd9c;L0|#00c4188de-8fd0-4c65-ad50-f8de6fb0dd9c|repairs and maintenance;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#965d83ed-de5b-43a3-91c3-d4d1627228c9;L0|#0965d83ed-de5b-43a3-91c3-d4d1627228c9|faults;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
