Witsands Beach
About
Witsands Beach, so named for its long stretch of white sand, is largely popular among kitesurfers on windy days. From the sea-cliff road, it is a steep walk down one of the sandy tracks to the beach. Another option is to drive down to the car park serving a boat-launching ramp, which is accessed from a road just outside the entrance gates to Soetwater Resort.
On a rocky headland known as ‘Die Eiland’ (the island), is a crayfish processing factory. Surfers know the ‘crayfish factory’ as a big-wave surf spot. Swimming is best limited to calm days as powerful waves and rip currents may catch unaware swimmers. The beach is backed by rolling dunes that constitute a seasonal wetland area.
