Anti-extortion campaign

<div class="ExternalClassA30EEBF58A76493A8E1849643C6B9D47"><p>The City launched an anti-extortion campaign in 2023 in response to increased threats and attacks by the so-called construction mafia demanding protection money for projects. These criminal acts put the lives of staff and residents at risk and delay projects and programmes, impacting service delivery.</p><br></div>

<p>The campaign, under the slogan <strong>Enough is Enough</strong>, includes a 24-hour tip-off line and rewards system, as well as a dedicated law enforcement unit to combat these crimes.<br></p> <img class="responsive" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/Enough-isenough-campaign-mayor-800.jpg" alt="" /> <h2 class="sectHeading">See something, say something<br></h2><p>We all have a role to play to tackle this criminal act. Help us by reporting any instance, no matter how small, to our dedicated anonymous tip-off line. Contact us immediately if you become aware of criminals intimidating project teams or your community, asking for protection money or disrupting services.</p><p>When reporting, please state that the matter involves ‘extortion’, ‘intimidation’, ‘blackmail’ or ‘protection money’, among others.
