Hosting a small event in the city

Cape Town is one of the world's finest event destinations. The fact that the city is visited by world famous celebrities, hosts international sports tournaments and is a popular filming location is testimony to that. But there is room for so much more than the events that make headlines.

How to host a small event

With its wealth of natural beauty and world-class facilities, Cape Town is also the perfect destination for this year’s company team building trip, monthly church field trip or the end-of-term outing.

To assist and encourage small events, the City does not require an events permit for events with less than 200 people.

However, if you are using any amplified sound or erecting a structure, an events permit application is required. Follow the link below to apply.

Aside from privately owned environments, you can host your small event at any of the following public, City-owned spots:

Call the venue or location where you would like to host your event in advance to check the availability and requirements for hosting the event.

If you would like to know more about hosting events at libraries or any other community locations, you can visit the Library and Information Services Department. For more information about beaches, parks and natural locations, please contact the Recreation and Parks Department where you can submit your queries.
