Waste collection services in Gugulethu, Philippi East/Lower Crossroads and Nyanga have been reinstated under security protection and will resume according to the usual schedule from Monday, 9 October if all goes as planned. In the meantime, the Urban Waste Management Directorate will commence with clearing the backlog on Saturday, 7 October. Services in these areas were unfortunately temporarily disrupted because refuse collection staff received threats of attack unless the City pays protection fees. In addition, services in Manenberg also resumed after gang violence subsided.
