Youth choirs bring music to the stage in Langa’s centenary celebrations | Youth choirs bring music to the stage in Langa’s centenary celebrations | | <img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/Events-Header.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /> | <p>As part of the celebrations to commemorate Langa’s rich cultural heritage, the City’s Recreation and Parks Department hosted the clash of the choirs on Freedom Day, Thursday 27 April 2023 at the Langa Community Hall.</p><p><br></p> | <p>The clash of the choirs is the second in a series of recreational festivals in collaboration with the local community to commemorate 100 years of Langa. </p><div>The event saw learners from Langa Secondary and Isilimela Comprehensive High School participating with guest performance by Langa Legends Choir.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The choir competition is also an extension of the recreation programme in which the City’s Recreation and Parks Department and the community are working together with a focus on choral and choir music as one of the genres.</div><div><br></div><div>Langa’s rich musical history and great entertainment stars like Brenda Fassie and many others who made a contribution through Arts and Culture were remembered on the day.</div><div><br></div><div>‘Music is such a beautiful way to bring youth together and to celebrate our cultural history, but it is also entertaining, educational and a source of inspiration. We hope that this event helps to strengthen the relationship between the City and the residents of Langa, so that we all can work together to create communities to be proud of,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia Van der Ross.</div><div><br></div><div>The Recreation and Parks Department is hosting more events as part of the Langa centenary celebrations - every last Friday of each month until September, at the Langa Community Hall.
