Work continues at City's R98m Gugulethu housing project

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, conducted a site visit at the City’s Erf 8448 Gugulethu housing project to check on its progress earlier this week. The project, which has been impacted by continued community actions and community dynamics in recent years, is expected to provide opportunities to approximately 571 qualifying beneficiaries and their families. A total of 321 units are currently under construction at Erf 8448 Gugulethu, with 29 units scheduled for handover by the end of May 2021, if all goes according to plan. Another 128 units are expected to be ready for handover during July 2021.

‘The City is currently looking at infrastructure upgrades in the area ahead of the completion of the project. This includes upgrades to the bulk sewer line and the construction of a new sewer pump station, which are under way. 

‘The City is mindful of the acute need for housing opportunities in all areas of the metro. We are making every effort to address the concerns of communities and to provide opportunities within a planned and fair manner wherever possible,’ said Councillor Booi.
