Update on planned water supply disruptions this weekUpdate on planned water supply disruptions this week<img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/Commercial%20Water%20and%20Sanitation%20Concessions%20and%20Rebates%20Header.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /><p>​<strong><em><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;">Residents in the affected areas below are encouraged to take note of the work that will be taking place in their areas</span></em></strong><br></p><p>​</p><p><strong>Zero-Pressure Tests</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><ul><li><strong>Lower Gordon's Bay area</strong><br><br>The City's Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct zero pressure tests on the main water supply to the Lower Gordon's Bay area. This work will disrupt the water supply to this area <strong>on Tuesday, 18 October 2022, from 22:00 overnight until 04:00 on Wednesday, 19 October 2022. </strong><br><br><strong> </strong></li><li><strong>Bel Aire area of Somerset West</strong><br><br>The City's Water and Sanitation Department will conduct zero pressure tests on the main water supply to the Bel Aire area of Somerset West. This work will disrupt the water supply to this area <strong>on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, from 22:00 overnight until 04:00 on Thursday, 20 October 2022.</strong><br><br><strong> </strong></li><li><strong>Steenberg Golf Estate</strong><br><br>The City's Water and Sanitation Department will conduct zero pressure tests on the main water supply to the Steenberg Golf Estate bounded by Steenberg Road, Tokai Road, and Zwaanswyk Road. This work will disrupt the water supply to this area <strong>on Thursday, 20 October 2022, from 22:00 overnight until 04:00 on Friday, 21 October 2022.</strong><br><br> <br><br>Zero-pressure testing is part of the installation process for pressure management technology. Tests are done to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing smart pressure-reducing valves. <br><br> <br><br>In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure, and some may have no water coming out of their taps for some time during this overnight testing period. It is impossible to predict which areas or streets will experience disruptions. <br><br><strong> </strong><br><br>Residents are kindly advised to store water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period and to ensure that their taps are closed to avoid water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.<br><br> <br><br>This work forms part of the City's Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.<br><br><strong> </strong><br><br><strong>Maintenance Work</strong><br><br><strong> </strong></li></ul><ul><li><strong>Glenwood, Goodwood, and Tygerdal areas</strong><br><br>The City's Water and Sanitation Directorate will be shutting off the water supply main to the Glenwood, Goodwood, and Tygerdal areas <strong>on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, from 09:00 until 18:00.</strong> This will enable the contractor to safely install a 225mm diameter connection on the water supply main to the area. A water tanker will be parked at the Glenwood Shopping Centre and another in Riebeeck Street at the Retirement Village. A third roaming water tanker will be deployed to the area.<br><br> </li><li><strong>Klein Constantia and Tokai</strong><br><br>The City's Water and Sanitation Directorate will be shutting off the water supply to Klein Constantia, <strong>on Thursday, 20 October 2022, from 08:00 until 16:00.</strong> This will enable the safe completion of construction work on the main water supply to the area and will result in the disruption of water supply to Klein Constantia area and low water pressure at Tokai. The work involves the isolation of the old water pipeline along Klein Constantia Road (from Croft Road Junction to Mount Prospect Junction). This will ensure the optimal operation of the newly installed pipeline along Klein Constantia Road. <br><br> <br><br>This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate's pipe replacement programme which addresses the need for water supply network upgrades, in particular the distribution system to the consumers. <br><br> <br><br>Please be advised that all sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such are off-limits to members of the public.<br><br><em> </em> <br><br><strong>Pressure Reduction Valve (PRV) Installation</strong><br><br> </li><li><strong>Penhill in Eerste River </strong><br><br>The City's Water and Sanitation Directorate will be installing a PRV on main water supply to the Penhill area in Eerste River. This work will result in the disruption of the water supply to this area <strong>on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, from 09:00 until 16:00. </strong>A water tanker will roam be roaming through the area to provide water for domestic use where required.<br><br> </li><li><strong>Bridgewater area in Somerset West</strong><br><br>The City's Water and Sanitation Directorate will be installing a PRV on the main water supply to the Bridgewater area in Somerset West. This work will result in the disruption of water supply to the Bridgewater area and the immediate surrounding roads <strong>on Thursday, 20 October 2022, from 09:00 until 16:00. </strong>A water tanker will roam be roaming through the area to provide water for domestic use where required.<br><br> <br><br>Zero-pressure testing is part of the installation process for pressure management technology.
