Tunes for young and old
'The City is proud to partner with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and Cape Town Opera to bring these initiatives to our residents. Music is not only a unifier, but listening to it also has health benefits like reducing anxiety and blood pressure, and also improving your mood. Music makes us happy and for younger children, it can help in the development of their cognitive and physical abilities,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.

During April there will be a series of community concerts titled Opera in Your Neighbourhood which will bring world-class opera performances directly to the doorstep of our residents, and Opera Blocks interactive performances. The latter creates an opportunity for parents and little ones up to five years old to experience the magic of music and theatre.

These musical play sessions are for parents and caregivers to bring babies and young children to sing, dance, play and have fun, while experiencing the benefits of classical music in their early developmental stages.

The Opera in Your Neighbourhood performances by the Cape Town Opera Chorus will take place on:

22 April: 12:00 – 16:00 at the Edgemead community hall

23 April: 12:00 – 16:00 at the Blouberg community hall

24 April: 12:00 – 16:00 at the Durbanville town hall

25 April: 12:00 – 16:00 at the Simon's Town Civic Centre

The Opera Blocks performances will take place on:

26 April, at 11:00 and 13:00 at the Ocean View community hall

27 April, at 11:00 and 13:00 at the Salt River town hall

'I want to encourage our residents to join in these events, as we embrace new experiences and enjoy performances by exceptional musicians,' added Councillor Van der Ross.

To book a seat to attend any of the performances, please email: Lukhanyile.Mtsolongo@capetown.gov.za

End

2024-04-11T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#34f4df81-9990-40ab-8213-8383ea5bee8b;L0|#034f4df81-9990-40ab-8213-8383ea5bee8b|event;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#be65fece-4b22-4fe1-9f12-c820eedd3e70;L0|#0be65fece-4b22-4fe1-9f12-c820eedd3e70|culture10
