Road upgrades in Kuils River and Strand aim to alleviate traffic congestion

<p><strong><em><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;">The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be upgrading Amandel Road in Kuils River and Broadway Boulevard in Strand as part of its ongoing efforts to alleviate traffic congestion along key arterial routes within the metro. </span></em></strong><br></p>

<p></p><p><strong>Amandel Road upgrade:</strong></p><p>The existing dual carriageway on Amandel Road in Kuils River will be extended by upgrading the current single carriageway between the Bottelary River bridge and Church Street. This will include the construction of a secondary dualled road-over-river bridge that will run parallel to the existing bridge across the Bottelary River. A separate cycling lane will be incorporated from the roundabout at Langverwacht Road through to Soneike Mall.</p><p> </p><p>Work commenced on 17 October 2022 and completion is expected in July 2024.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Broadway Boulevard upgrade:</strong></p><p>The existing single carriageway section of Broadway Boulevard between Main Road and Altena Road will be upgraded to a dual carriageway. This will include the construction of a secondary dualled road-over-railway bridge that will run parallel to the existing bridge.</p><p> </p><p>Work commenced on 12 October 2022 and completion is expected in September 2024.</p><p> </p><p>'Urban Mobility is committed to incrementally improving public transport infrastructure and operations in Cape Town, and this major road upgrade allows us to be more responsive to our road users' needs.
