Resurfacing roadworks in Mitchells Plain

21 February 2024

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises residents, road users, businesses and the broader public of roadworks along Lantana Street, Juno Road and Silversands Avenue in the Mitchells Plain area. The roadworks are planned to take place from Wednesday, 21 February 2024 until Friday, 15 March 2024, from 09:00 to 15:30, Monday to Friday. If necessary, work may also be done on Sundays.

The roadworks include the following:

  • Milling and removal of existing road surface
  • Relaying the area with new thick asphalt wearing course over the full width of the road
  • The removal of damaged kerbs and installation of new kerbs
  • Removing the speed hump and constructing a new speed hump
  • The reinstatement of all road markings removed during the process

'Residents in this vicinity of Mitchells Plain will soon be able to benefit from these works. These resurfaced roads will improve road safety conditions and commuter quality. We thank residents for their patience while we carry out this maintenance work to prolong the longevity of these roads.

'Congestion can be expected since traffic travelling in both directions will be affected. I advise road users and scholar transport operators to please use alternative routes while construction work is under way, especially along Silversands Avenue near the Parkhurst Primary school,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City advises road users to be cautious while work is under way, reduce travelling speed and be aware of uneven road surfaces.
