Residents encouraged to register for review of City’s Spatial Development Framework

Those who are interested to register can do so on www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay. The closing date for registrations is 31 October 2021.

Council approved the City’s Municipal Spatial Development Framework (MSDF) in April 2018. The MSDF is now up for review. Registered stakeholders will have the opportunity to submit comments once the draft revised MSDF is available to the public.

The MSDF guides and informs long-term planning and development in Cape Town. The MSDF’s objective is to pursue a spatial form that will ensure Cape Town becomes more equitable, sustainable, resilient, and efficient. It pursues inward growth, and discourages developments on the outskirts of the city, while also protecting conservation areas and agricultural assets.

Officials from the City’s Growth, Urban Planning and Design Department are currently working on revising the MSDF to reflect recently approved City strategies, policies, and processes. The review will also include the latest eight District Spatial Development Frameworks, once these have been approved, and the strategic imperatives of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for the new five year term-of-office.

‘I want to urge residents and interested and affected parties to please register as stakeholders. We want you to contribute and collaborate with the City on this review. The MSDF is one of the City’s most important policy documents as it guides public and private investment decisions that will affect Cape Town’s spatial form,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Marian Nieuwoudt.

Enquiries related to the MSDF review process can be sent to Future.CapeTown@capetown.gov.za.

End
2021-09-07T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#0ab901dc-08fc-4328-86e9-d67d3a0317b4;L0|#00ab901dc-08fc-4328-86e9-d67d3a0317b4|spacial planning and land use management;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#7bc6ae33-4440-4f3c-9759-db7cf2132301;L0|#07bc6ae33-4440-4f3c-9759-db7cf2132301|urban planning;GP0|#fe11fd8c-3cf3-4b97-a7a2-3bc40b1f205a;L0|#0fe11fd8c-3cf3-4b97-a7a2-3bc40b1f205a|district spatial development framework10
